Mette Lorentzen
Debutant / Painting

This is Mette Lorentzen, born 1966, first debut as a solo exhibitor. She graduated from the Norwegian Academy of fine arts (Statens Kunstakademi) in Oslo Spring 1995 but spent a period of 2 years of her studies at the Academy of Fine arts in St. Petersburg to acquire knowledge in a traditional department for still life drawing figurative and realistic painting.
Using the term classical figuration to describe Mette Lorentzen’s paintings can be somewhat misleading. They are constructed with the challenges of classical painting in mind, and she herself points out that the role of the motif is rather a framework for formal exploration. However, the images neither romanticize nor glorify. Instead, they show us a realism of everyday life, which can be surprising in relation to the aestheticizing method. Mette Lorentzen lives in Oslo and has participated in several group exhibitions such as the Autumn Exhibition (Høstutstillingen) and the Northern Norway Exhibition (Nordnorsken).
The exhibition period for all exhibitions is: February 7th to March 1st 1998. Opening hours: Tuesday - Friday 11 am - 5 pm, Saturday and Sunday 12 pm - 4 pm, closed on Monday. The exhibition will be installed from Tuesday 3 February. The artists will be present.
